Releasing Anger

I get angry sometimes. I was brought up to “be nice” and to “say nice things”. That, coupled with my personality, led me to believe it is not ok to express negative thoughts or emotions. Thankfully the sands of time and travel led me to live in many different cultures abroad and in the US. I learned that sometimes it is ok to express negative feelings. I was just never very good at it.

My husband, on the other hand, is pretty calm and rational. When I would get upset, I would say things I regretted. It’s hard to describe. I felt unable to control the anger that would build up and eventually come out as unloving words that hurt. My husband asked why I couldn’t just tell him what was wrong calmly. I wondered the same myself.

Recently we were on the journey to purchase our first home together. Not an easy feat! My anger surfaced on many occasions. I needed a solution.

At this point I was already using essential oils to aid in emotional well-being. Stress Away is great for work hours! Lavender has a calming effect before sleep. Since I already had success with essentials oils, I was hopeful there was one for anger. I googled “anger and essential oils” and up popped Young Living’s blend called Release.

I was a little scared to try it, to be honest. I thought it would release this massive beast and ball of emotions. Actually it turned out to be the exact opposite. It is a very mild scent. The blend includes essential oils like Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Geranium, Sandalwood, and many more.

I tried it first during work hours. I work in Technical Support; anger can be a big issue depending on the customer and issue! At first I was diffusing the oil but I found the scent to be too mild; I almost couldn’t smell anything. So I switched to placing a drop or two in my palms, placing my palms towards my face, and taking deep breaths. This worked wonders. I found myself not overcome by anger at all. It helped me feel more grounded and able to handle the situation.

I decided to try it with the house hunting interactions with my husband as well. Again, it worked amazing! The situation was still stressful, but I felt more in-control of my emotions to express my thoughts more calmly.

Release will definitely be apart of my essential oils collection for the foreseeable future!
